As Nigeria celebrates her 65th Independence Anniversary, the National Association of Yala Local Government Students Worldwide (NAYLOGS WW) has urged young people to embrace their civic responsibility by participating actively in the electoral process.

In a statement made available to journalists and sighted by Akahi News, the students’ body announced its Independence Day Special Programme, themed “Your Vote, Your Future”, scheduled to hold on 1st October 2025 at 8pm on the organisation’s WhatsApp platform.
Youth, Democracy, and the Power of the Ballot
According to the organisers, the programme is designed not only to celebrate Nigeria’s independence but also to remind the youth that their voter’s card remains the strongest tool for shaping the country’s future.
“Independence is not just history; it is a living responsibility for every citizen, especially the youth. Your voter’s card is not just an ID – it is your voice, your power, and your right to demand accountability and promote good leadership,” the statement read.
Akahi News gathered that the event will highlight the role of students and young Nigerians in sustaining democracy through active participation. Speakers will emphasise that freedom, once fought for by the nation’s heroes, must now be preserved through conscious action at the ballot.
Don’t Just Talk About Change, Be the Change
The statement, jointly signed by Comrade Agara Michael Ubia, Executive President of NAYLOGS WW, and Comrade Ohiero Thomas Elijah, Director of Information, stressed that every vote counts and every voice matters in building the Nigeria of our dreams.
“Don’t just talk about change – be the change. Get your voter’s card. Use it. Own your future,” the students declared.
A Message of Hope on Independence Day
The group concluded with an inspiring Independence Day message:
“On this day, we celebrate the gift of freedom and the sacrifices of our heroes past who gave us the Nigeria we proudly call our own. May this Independence Anniversary remind us that democracy thrives only when citizens take responsibility.”
As Nigeria commemorates 65 years of nationhood, Akahi News notes that such initiatives by youth organisations remain crucial in deepening civic consciousness and strengthening the democratic culture.
