OKUKU, YALA LGA, CROSS RIVER STATE — Preparations and mobilisation for the Yala Unity Festival 2026 have continued with an awareness walk around Okuku in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The awareness campaign, led by Omgbotuche Ayi Yala, brought together a sizeable group of participants dressed in specially branded Yala Unity Festival 2026 T-shirts and caps as they moved through parts of the community.

The activity was aimed at drawing public attention to the forthcoming annual Yala Cultural New Yam Festival and encouraging greater participation in the celebration of Yala’s cultural heritage and unity.

Awareness Walk Highlights Culture and Unity

The participants, despite the wet conditions during the walk, moved through the streets of Okuku carrying the message of unity and cultural identity.

The inscriptions on the participants’ clothing prominently featured “YALA UNITY FESTIVAL 2026”, while the campaign materials emphasised messages centred on one people, one culture and one unity.

Akahi News observed that the awareness walk provided an opportunity to take the festival message directly to residents and communities, rather than limiting mobilisation to conventional announcements and social media campaigns.

The visibility of the group on the streets also created a public display of solidarity around the cultural event.
