A 20-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Mutari, has allegedly killed his father’s 70-year-old stepmother, Hauwa Abubakar, in Yanbula community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, in a tragic incident that has shocked residents of the area.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Husband Condemns Alleged Killing
The husband of the deceased, Abubakar Shuaibu, strongly condemned the act, describing it as cruel, heartless, and inhumane.
He alleged that the suspect attacked his wife, strangled her, and stabbed her before fleeing the scene.
Akahi News gathered that the brutal nature of the alleged attack has heightened fears and outrage within the local community.
Family Alleges Prior Threats by Suspect
A daughter of the deceased, Ummi Ahmed, disclosed that the suspect had earlier issued threats of revenge following a violent altercation between him and their younger brother, Musa, which reportedly occurred last year.
According to her account, the two brothers had engaged in a fight during which Musa allegedly stabbed Ibrahim in the stomach, an incident that resulted in Ibrahim’s hospitalisation.
“Ibrahim vowed to take revenge on either the children of the deceased or their mother while he was in the hospital. Sadly, he has now carried out that threat,” she said.
Warnings Reportedly Ignored
Ummi further revealed that medical personnel who treated the suspect at the time had reportedly warned the family about his utterances, describing them as dangerous and alarming.
She added that despite these warnings, the family did not anticipate that the threats would escalate into violence.
Deceased’s Act of Kindness Recalled
According to the family, the deceased had shown remarkable kindness to the suspect during his hospital stay.
“She took care of him throughout his treatment until he was discharged. Despite her care and kindness, he still went ahead to kill her,” Ummi lamented.
Further findings revealed that the suspect’s father shared a close bond with the deceased, who reportedly raised him after his biological mother died during his childhood.
In appreciation of her care and support, the suspect’s father was said to have brought her into his home and treated her as his own mother until his death.
Police Investigation Underway
Security operatives have since launched an investigation into the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect, who is currently at large.
Akahi News learnt that authorities have urged members of the public with useful information to assist security agencies in locating the suspect, as investigations continue.
The incident has once again raised concerns over unresolved family conflicts and the dangers of ignored threats, with residents calling for justice and improved early intervention in domestic disputes.
