The long-awaited 2025 Osogbo Diocesan Laity Conference is set to hold from Friday, 31st October to Sunday, 2nd November 2025, at Our Lady and St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, Ede, bringing together Catholic faithful from across the diocese for spiritual rejuvenation, leadership transition, and renewed commitment to the Church’s mission.
According to details contained in a programme sighted by Akahi News and signed by the Diocesan Laity Secretary, Festus O. Olasinde, the conference—held once every four years—marks the end of the current Diocesan Laity Executive Council and the inauguration of a new leadership team.
Theme and Sub-Themes for the 2025 Conference
The central theme for this year’s conference is “The Laity as Co-Responsible in the Evangelization Mission of the Church.”
The event will also feature two significant sub-themes:
- The Role of the Laity in Upholding the Authentic Liturgical Traditions of the Church.
- The Responsibilities of the Laity Towards Fund Generation for the Work of Evangelization in the Church.
Akahi News gathered that the three-day gathering will serve as a period of prayer, recollection, spiritual renewal, and a time for delegates to render stewardship accounts before assuming new responsibilities in the diocesan laity structure.
Bishop’s Directives and Participation
In the official communication, the Bishop mandated all parishes to be fully represented by at least five delegates each, alongside representatives from all lay apostolates including CMO, CWO, CYON, KSM, KSJ, Sacred Heart, and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
Each diocesan-level group is expected to send two representatives, while the Bishop clarified that once parishes are fully represented, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) need not attend.
Akahi News learnt that the Bishop will personally grace the event on Saturday, 1st November 2025, for interactive discussions and spiritual sessions with the faithful.
Registration and Logistics
The registration fee for the conference has been pegged at ₦10,000 per participant, covering accommodation and feeding for the five meals and two nights scheduled. Registration has officially commenced and is expected to close one week before the conference begins.
Ife Deanery Laity President Speaks
In an exclusive interview with Akahi News, Engr. Oni Emmanuel Opeyemi, the Catholic Laity President of Ife Deanery, confirmed that a seminar on financial management will hold on Saturday, 1st November, alongside the election of a new Diocesan Executive Council that will steer the affairs of the Laity Council for the next four years.
When asked about his advice to delegates from Ife Deanery, Engr. Opeyemi urged them to:
- Be good ambassadors of their parishes and families.
- Participate actively in every programme throughout the conference.
He emphasised that active engagement and faith-driven participation would ensure that Ife Deanery contributes meaningfully to the spiritual and administrative growth of the Diocese.
