The Accord Party has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging that Osun State Governor, Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has been presented as its candidate for the 2026 governorship election.
Party Rejects Claims as False and Deceptive
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the publication circulating in the public space as “entirely false, misleading, and calculated to deceive the public.” It stressed that at no time did Accord submit Governor Adeleke as its candidate for the forthcoming Osun governorship poll.
Akahi News gathered that the party’s leadership expressed concern that the report was deliberately crafted to misinform the public and create unnecessary confusion ahead of the election.
INEC Acknowledged Bamigbola’s Nomination — Accord
While noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have acknowledged receipt of certain nomination details from other quarters, the Accord Party insisted that the electoral body also duly received and acknowledged the nomination of Mr. Kolawole Clement Bamigbola.
According to the party, Bamigbola’s nomination was submitted at INEC’s Abuja headquarters alongside all required statutory documents, including Forms EC9, EC13B, and the report of a validly conducted primary election.
“Accordingly, the duly nominated and legitimate gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election is Mr. Kolawole Clement Bamigbola,” the party stated.
Leadership Dispute Remains in Court
Addressing concerns over internal party disputes, Accord clarified that issues relating to its national leadership remain sub judice. However, it maintained that the Prof. Chris Imumolen–led faction has taken all lawful, procedural, and constitutional steps to safeguard the party from what it described as hijackers, impersonators, and unlawful interference.
The party said these steps were necessary to preserve the integrity of its internal democratic processes pending the final determination of the courts.
Call to Public, Media to Ignore “Manufactured Narratives”
Accord further accused the authors of the disputed publication of attempting to create the false impression that the party lacks a credible governorship candidate. It described such narratives as baseless and urged the public, the media, and other stakeholders to disregard speculative reports and propaganda.
“There exists no legal or factual basis for the claims being circulated,” the statement said.
Party Urges Calm and Unity
The party called on its members and supporters to remain calm, focused, and resolute in their support for Kolawole Clement Bamigbola, reaffirming its commitment to due process, internal democracy, and the rule of law.
Signed by the party’s spokesperson, Muktar Abdallah Jungum, on January 29, 2026, the statement concluded that Accord would not be distracted by mischief-makers or political opportunists, insisting that “the facts are clear, the records are intact, and the law will prevail.”
