Over 100 cyclists from across Nigeria are gearing up for the maiden edition of the Ajilete Grand Fondo Cycling Championship, scheduled to take place in Ogbomoso this December.

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria has pledged full technical support to ensure the smooth running of the competition. Femi Thomas, a board member of the federation, praised cycling enthusiast Adebayo Majolagbe for sponsoring the event, describing it as a significant boost for the sport.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to have this type of event because the federation has been doing its best to encourage the sport. With initiatives like this, we believe it will create opportunities for cyclists while also promoting the host community,” Thomas said.
Majolagbe, the event sponsor, expressed optimism that the championship will accelerate the growth of cycling in Nigeria. He noted that the Ajilete Grand Fondo goes beyond sports, as it also aims to promote local culture and tradition.
“It’s the first of its kind. The idea is not just about cycling but also about showcasing culture and tradition in a unique way. With the right coverage and support, this can transform the cycling community in Nigeria,” he said.
The race is open to both amateurs and professional cyclists, offering a platform for participants to showcase their talents in the historic city of Ogbomoso. Organisers believe the event will not only project the community positively but also place Nigerian cycling on a path toward global recognition.
