Anambra Election: Police Commissioner Engages Prophet Odumeje, Urges Religious Leaders to Promote Peace
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
As political activities intensify ahead of the Anambra Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has continued his non-kinetic peace-building engagements, reaching out to key religious figures and community influencers to foster unity, peace, and patriotism across the state.

In a development Akahi News gathered from the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters in Amawbia – Awka, CP Orutugu received the founder of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere (Odumeje), who paid a courtesy visit to the Command on Thursday.
CP Orutugu Calls for Collective Peace Efforts
While welcoming the popular clergyman, CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and law-abiding electoral process in Anambra State. He stressed that moral and spiritual leaders play a critical role in shaping public behaviour, especially during politically charged seasons.
According to Akahi News, the Police boss appealed to religious and traditional leaders to deploy their platforms to preach peace, unity, and lawful participation in the forthcoming election. He noted that the success of any democratic process depends largely on the conduct of citizens and the moral guidance of community leaders.
“We must all work together to ensure peace before, during, and after the election. Religious leaders, in particular, wield great influence, and their voices can help prevent violence and misunderstanding among the people,” CP Orutugu stated.
He further reiterated that under his leadership, the Command would continue to adopt community-driven and non-kinetic approaches to policing — prioritising dialogue, cooperation, and trust between security agencies and the public.
Prophet Odumeje Pledges Prayer and Support
In his response, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere (Odumeje) commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive engagement with critical stakeholders. He expressed appreciation for the open-door policy of the Command, which he described as a sign of humility and leadership maturity.
Odumeje, known for his spiritual activism and community influence, offered prayers for divine wisdom, protection, and strength for the Police leadership, assuring CP Orutugu of his continuous support in promoting peace and stability across Anambra State.
“The work of keeping peace is not only for the Police — it is for all of us. I will continue to pray for the Police and encourage my congregation to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the coming election,” he declared.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Peaceful Polls
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who issued a statement confirming the meeting, the visit underscores the Command’s renewed commitment to inclusive, community-based strategies for maintaining peace and security.
He explained that the Command’s collaboration with faith-based leaders like Prophet Odumeje is part of broader efforts to build trust and reduce tension ahead of the polls.
Akahi News reports that the Anambra Police Command has, in recent weeks, intensified its engagements with youth groups, political parties, market unions, and religious institutions — all aimed at preventing electoral violence and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
A Call for Calm and Cooperation
As preparations heighten for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, CP Orutugu urged all residents to maintain calm, respect constituted authorities, and report any suspicious activities that may threaten peace and stability.
He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains apolitical and is focused solely on ensuring the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the election.
The continuous collaboration between the Police Command and stakeholders, as noted by Akahi News, signals a growing recognition that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, inclusion, and moral leadership.
