Celebrating a Life of Impact and Leadership
Born eight decades ago, Mama Ogoja began her career in education, rising through the ranks to serve as a headteacher before venturing into politics. Twice elected as Women Leader for her party, she became widely recognised as a fearless grassroots mobiliser and a strong voice for women’s inclusion in governance.

Her journey into politics, according to tributes shared at the event, was driven by a passion for community empowerment and gender equality. Under her leadership, women in her community gained stronger political representation, with many crediting her for inspiring them to contest elections and participate actively in governance.
“Mama Ogoja gave us courage when politics was considered a man’s game,” said one of her protégées during the celebration. “She showed us that women could lead, influence policy, and shape the future of our communities.”

Colour, Culture, and Tributes Mark the Day
The event itself was a blend of pomp and cultural elegance. Guests were treated to traditional dances, musical performances, and tributes that painted a vivid picture of Mama Ogoja’s legacy.
Speakers at the event described her as a bridge-builder, a mentor to many, and a woman whose humility belies her immense contributions to society. Emotional testimonies from family members and political associates revealed how her guidance had shaped lives, careers, and even political fortunes.

“Today, we celebrate a rare gem,” said Hon. Fred Okem, Chairman of Yala LGA. “Mama Ogoja embodies the virtues of dedication, hard work, and compassion. Her life story will continue to inspire generations yet unborn.”
As she begins another chapter of life, well-wishers prayed for Mama Ogoja’s continued health, happiness, and fulfilment. Many called on the younger generation to learn from her example of service above self and dedication to the common good.
The celebration ended on a high note with a symbolic cutting of the birthday cake, a gesture that captured the joy, reverence, and gratitude that filled the Jonag Hotel that afternoon.
For Mama Ogoja, the day was not just about turning 80; it was about witnessing the impact of a life lived for others and a legacy firmly etched in the annals of Cross River State’s political and social history.
