ATSO Seeks Stronger Relationship With Government

Speaking on the purpose of the engagements, the association emphasised that tutorial school operators should be regarded as partners in educational development rather than a threat to the formal education system.

According to the message shared by the association, ATSO Ogun believes that tutorial centres can contribute to improved academic performance and support students preparing for important examinations when they operate responsibly and maintain constructive relationships with relevant authorities.

The association said the meetings provided an opportunity to receive advice and encouragement from the officials visited. It expressed optimism that the engagements would contribute to the growth of the association and the advancement of its members’ interests.

The visits also highlight the importance of dialogue between educational service providers, government officials and security agencies in building mutual understanding and addressing concerns affecting the operation of tutorial centres.

Protecting Legitimate Interests of Tutorial Operators

ATSO Ogun urged its members to demonstrate their contributions to education, engage government institutions positively and protect their legitimate business interests.

The association’s position reflects the need for tutorial school operators to combine the pursuit of sustainable businesses with a commitment to educational standards, responsible practices and students’ academic development.

Private tutorial centres play a role in helping candidates prepare for examinations such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Their contribution, however, depends on the quality of instruction, the integrity of their operations and their ability to meet students’ learning needs.

Constructive engagement with relevant authorities could also provide opportunities to clarify regulatory expectations, improve communication and address challenges facing operators in the state.

Although the association expressed confidence in the outcome of the courtesy visits, details of specific agreements, policy commitments or follow-up actions were not provided in its announcement.

Call for Unity and Collective Progress

The Ogun State chapter called on its members to remain united and committed to demonstrating the value of tutorial centres to the educational system.

The association maintained an optimistic tone in its message, declaring that “ATSO Ogun is a moving train” and reaffirming its slogan, “ATSO Integrity!”

The development underscores the importance of continued dialogue between ATSO, government institutions and other stakeholders in education. Sustained engagement, backed by responsible conduct and measurable contributions to students’ performance, could help strengthen public confidence in the tutorial sector.

For ATSO Ogun, the immediate challenge is to translate the goodwill generated by the courtesy visits into practical outcomes that support educational development while safeguarding the legitimate interests of tutorial school operators.
