Australia Declares Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps a Terrorist Organisation After Melbourne Synagogue Arson
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Australia has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, following a wave of antisemitic incidents, including last year’s devastating arson attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne.

The synagogue fire, which gutted much of the historic building, left the Jewish community shaken and was classified by police as a “likely terrorist incident.” The attack heightened concerns about targeted violence against Jewish Australians and the growing influence of foreign extremist groups.
A community leader described the decision as necessary but underscored the lingering fear: “Yet there will be great anxiety that we have been targeted in such a callous and calculated way, by a ruthless and violent foreign force, because of who we are.”
Israel’s embassy in Australia welcomed the move, noting that it had long urged the government to act. In a statement, it said: “This is a step we have long advocated for. Iran’s regime is not only a threat to Jews or Israel, it endangers the entire free world, including Australia. A strong and important move.”
Iran’s embassy in Canberra has not yet issued a response to the development.
The designation, analysts say, signals a stronger stance by Australia against international terrorism and is expected to tighten security cooperation with allies, particularly Israel and the United States.
