Bauchi Police Arrest Suspected Murderer Three Months After 46-Year-Old Man Was Killed
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Abdulrazak Sale Kundang, who has been described as the principal suspect in the alleged murder of a 46-year-old man, Rilwanu Dauda, in Karofin Madaki.
The arrest came exactly three months after Dauda was reportedly attacked and stabbed during an incident that occurred in the area on July 5, 2026.
According to the police, the victim was attacked at about 9:30 am by Sale and other members of his alleged gang. He was subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.

However, the severity of his injuries meant that medical intervention could not save his life. A medical doctor reportedly pronounced Dauda dead at about 11 am on the same day.
For three months, the circumstances surrounding the killing remained the subject of police investigation, while the alleged perpetrators were reportedly at large.
The breakthrough came on October 5, when police operatives arrested Sale following information allegedly provided by a Good Samaritan.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
The arrest is potentially significant because the police said the suspect and other members of the group had previously been linked to another politically motivated murder in the same area.
According to the Command, the suspects allegedly disappeared after that incident, making their subsequent identification and arrest an important development in the investigation.
The police have not, however, indicated that the arrest brings the investigation to an end. Other suspects allegedly connected with the killing are still at large, and the Command said efforts were continuing to apprehend them.
The case also illustrates the importance of information from members of the public in the investigation of serious crimes. In this instance, information reportedly provided by a Good Samaritan helped the police trace and arrest the principal suspect three months after the alleged murder.
Such cooperation can be particularly important in cases where suspects leave the immediate area following a crime and attempt to evade law enforcement.
At the same time, the allegation against Sale must remain subject to due process. His arrest and description as a principal suspect do not amount to a conviction. The circumstances of the alleged killing must be established through proper investigation and, if the suspect is charged, tested before a competent court.
The decision of the Commissioner of Police to direct a thorough investigation before the suspect is charged is therefore significant. A comprehensive investigation should establish the circumstances leading to the victim’s death, identify the roles allegedly played by the various suspects and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to support criminal charges.
It is equally important that the investigation extends to the other suspects who remain at large. Bringing all persons genuinely connected to the alleged crime before the law would help provide a clearer picture of what happened and ensure that responsibility is properly determined.
The alleged connection between the suspects and an earlier politically motivated murder also raises broader concerns about the security situation in the area. If established, such a pattern would suggest the need for security agencies to investigate whether the incidents are isolated crimes or part of a wider criminal network.
For the family of Rilwanu Dauda, however, the arrest represents a long-awaited development following the loss of their relative.
The killing of a 46-year-old man in broad daylight, as alleged by the police, remains a serious matter requiring a thorough and transparent investigation.
The Bauchi State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to pursuing criminal elements in the state.
Commissioner Aliyu also warned that criminals would not be allowed to use Bauchi as a safe haven.
The immediate priority is now to establish the full circumstances surrounding Dauda’s death, apprehend the remaining suspects allegedly involved and ensure that any person found culpable is brought before the appropriate court.
The case serves as another reminder that the fight against violent crime requires not only effective policing but also responsible information sharing by members of the public.
