BBNaija Housemates Win Weekly Wager Amid Tough Critiques from Judges
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Big Brother Naija house was filled with tension and excitement as housemates battled for their weekly wager under the scrutiny of a star-studded panel. Nollywood veterans Eucharia Anunobi and Tony Umez joined Nigerian music stars Omawumi and Iyanya to judge the night’s performances.
A Night of Talent and Tough Judgement
The wager, which determines food supplies for the week, featured three rounds: a Supersport quiz, a singing contest styled after Nigerian Idol, and an original drama presentation.
Singing performances lit up the evening, with Jason Jae receiving praise for his vocal delivery from Omawumi and Iyanya, though Tony Umez reminded him to face the judges during performances. Mensan emerged as one of the night’s standout acts with his rendition of Angel of My Life, earning a perfect 10/10 from Anunobi, who hailed his stage control.
Koyin also impressed with his outfit, energy, and stage usage, though Anunobi observed his momentum dipped toward the end. Denari, however, struggled to impress, earning an “E for effort” from Omawumi.
Drama Performances Under Fire
The drama sketches came under heavy criticism. Team Lost and Found was faulted for inaudibility, poor timing, and weak audience engagement. “You don’t back your audience. Project your voice—your voice and expressions are your selling points,” Anunobi cautioned, scoring them 5/10.
Umez also labelled the king’s delivery exaggerated and unconvincing, though he praised the queen’s performance as measured and realistic. Team Life of Pain faced similar challenges, with judges highlighting poor transitions and a lack of believability. Still, standout performances from the father and first wife received applause. Omawumi reminded the housemates that stagecraft must be both entertaining and educative.
Big Brother’s Verdict
In his closing remarks, Big Brother acknowledged the flaws but commended the housemates’ effort.
“If you had spent more time rehearsing, you could have done better. However, Big Brother understands that you’ve had a busy week. Considering your esteemed audience, the pressure was high, yet you showed courage,” Biggie said.
To the relief of all, Big Brother declared the house victorious, securing their food supplies for the week. The announcement was met with cheers, as housemates were urged to take the critiques as free lessons from seasoned professionals.
