A bomb explosion in Umueze, Umuaka, Imo State, has left several people injured, sparking fear and confusion among residents on Tuesday.

Eyewitness Accounts Reveal Horrific Scene

Akahi News gathered that the incident occurred at a busy spot where locals were selling akpakara. According to eyewitnesses, a man’s leg was blown off in the blast, while a father and his son also sustained serious injuries.

Shockingly, onlookers were reportedly more interested in recording videos of the injured victims than rushing to provide help. The man whose leg was severed was seen crying for assistance, but immediate aid was allegedly slow in coming.

Cause of Explosion Still Unclear

As at the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or its cause. Villagers allege that one of the victims might have unknowingly triggered the device, leading to the deadly blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for planting the explosive, and authorities have not linked the incident to any organisation so far.

Security Agencies Expected to Investigate

Observers believe that security agencies will intensify investigations to ascertain the nature of the device, possible perpetrators, and whether the blast poses a wider security threat to the community.

Residents are calling on the state government and law enforcement agencies to provide updates and enhance security measures in the area to prevent a recurrence.
