Sowore Accuses Wike of Alleged Corruption, Links Him to Luxury Hotel in Port Harcourt
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has stirred fresh controversy with allegations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. In a post shared on his verified Facebook page, Sowore claimed that the former Rivers State governor is involved in large-scale corruption, allegedly linking him to a multi-billion-naira luxury hotel in Port Harcourt.

Sowore’s Explosive Allegations
In his post, Sowore described Wike as “perhaps the biggest treasury looter in the history of Rivers State and now the FCT,” alleging that the J’s Signature Hotel in Port Harcourt is secretly owned by the minister.
He further claimed that the hotel, which he described as one of the most luxurious in the state, has its cheapest rooms priced at ₦250,000 per night. Sowore suggested that Wike’s choice of names for his children — Jasmyne, Joaquim, and Jordan — revealed what he called an “obsession with the ‘J’ theme,” implying it may be linked to the hotel’s name and ownership.
Verification and Unanswered Questions
Akahi News gathered that J’s Signature Hotel is indeed operational in Port Harcourt and is known for its high-end facilities. However, public records or independent investigations confirming ownership by Wike or his associates are yet to be produced.
Similarly, online booking platforms reviewed by journalists list varying room rates at the hotel, many below the ₦250,000 figure cited by Sowore, raising questions about the accuracy of the claim.
Allegations that Wike owns properties in the United States through proxies have also circulated in recent months, with petitions reportedly submitted to authorities. Yet, no official court ruling or government confirmation has validated these accusations.
Political and Public Reactions
Analysts believe these allegations could spark further calls for transparency and accountability in government, particularly as corruption remains a key concern for many Nigerians.
Political observers note that if substantiated, such claims could damage Wike’s political standing both at the federal and state levels. As at press time, the FCT Minister had not publicly responded to the latest accusations.
What Comes Next
Legal experts say the onus now lies on anti-corruption agencies and investigative journalists to scrutinise the claims and uncover verifiable evidence. Nigerians, meanwhile, await either an official denial from Wike or credible proof to back Sowore’s assertions.
For now, the allegations remain unproven but have reignited debates about corruption, wealth declaration, and accountability in public office.
