By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The decision follows a resolution passed during the Association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday. PENGASSAN has instructed all field personnel, including control room and panel operators, to withdraw services from 6:00 AM on Sunday, 28 September 2025, and commence a continuous prayer vigil. The Association stated that the prayers are aimed at appealing to God to guide authorities to ensure compliance with Nigerian law, particularly concerning the operations of Dangote Refinery and associated partners.

During the strike period, PENGASSAN emphasized that no intervention would be allowed at field locations except in circumstances where personnel or assets are at risk, in which case clearance must be obtained from the National Secretariat. All processes related to gas and crude supply to Dangote Refinery are to be suspended immediately. Additionally, all Independent Oil Company (IOC) branches are instructed to scale down gas production and supply to the refinery and petrochemical facilities.

PENGASSAN’s statement read:

“All PENGASSAN members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies should withdraw all services effective 00:01 on Monday, 29 September 2025. All IOC branches must ramp down gas production and supply to Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals. The prayer point should include a call to God Almighty to give courage to those in authority to rein in Dangote and his co-travelers on the need to obey the laws of our country. No man is bigger than our country. An injury to one is an injury to all.”

The strike, underscored by both industrial and spiritual action, reflects PENGASSAN’s stance on ensuring adherence to national laws and protecting workers’ rights in the petroleum sector. Observers anticipate significant operational disruptions at gas and refinery facilities as the strike takes effect.
