Beloved in Christ,
In today’s edition of my daily Catholic reflection, we shall learn about the freedom we are called to live in as Christians, the difference between living by faith and living under the law, and the call to repentance as revealed by God’s signs and messengers.

My name is Joseph Iyaji, and today is Monday, the 14th day in the Month of October, year 2024.
I titled my reflection for today as “Freedom in Faith.”
My dear friends in Christ,
In our first reading of today from Galatians 4:22-24, 26-27, 31-5:1, St. Paul draws a powerful contrast between two covenants using the story of Abraham’s two sons. One son was born to a slave woman, representing life under the law, while the other was born to a free woman, representing the freedom that comes from God’s promise. St. Paul reminds us that we are children of the free woman, meaning that our relationship with God is based on grace, not the strict following of rules. He calls us to stand firm in the freedom that Christ has given us, a freedom from the burdens of legalism. This means we are not tied down by endless rituals or customs but live freely in the Spirit through faith. God’s promise is one of liberty, not slavery to rules, and we are invited to live fully in this grace.
In our gospel reading of today from Luke 11:29-32, Jesus addresses the people who are constantly seeking signs. He points them to the example of Jonah and how his preaching led the people of Nineveh to repentance. Jesus tells them that He is greater than Jonah, yet they remain blind to the signs that are before them. Here, Jesus is challenging us to open our eyes and recognize the truth of God’s message. Just like the Queen of Sheba traveled from a far country to hear Solomon’s wisdom, the people of Nineveh repented at Jonah’s words. Yet, in Jesus’ time, many failed to recognize the greater wisdom and salvation standing right in front of them. This shows us that stubbornness and pride can blind us to God’s truth.
Both readings call us to live by faith. St. Paul encourages us to embrace the freedom Christ offers, while Jesus urges us to recognize the signs of God’s work and respond in humility. Let us choose freedom, humility, and faith today, knowing that God’s promise is far greater than any worldly law or demand.
