Deji Adeyanju Says Peter Obi’s Presidential Chances Are Over

Adeyanju: “It’s Too Late for Obi”

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has declared that former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, no longer stands a realistic chance of becoming Nigeria’s President.

In a Facebook post, Adeyanju argued that even if Obi’s supporters, popularly known as Obidients, changed their approach and abandoned what he described as “political extremism and online insults,” it would still not translate into victory at the polls.

“Even if Obidients change strategy and become born again; stop political extremism and insulting people online, their candidate cannot be president of Nigeria. It’s too late already. Even Atiku has a better chance at the presidency than Obi. That’s how bad his chances are,” Adeyanju stated.

Obi’s 2027 Ambition

Akahi News learnt that Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, is reportedly strategising for another run in 2027. His recent alignment with other opposition figures has drawn attention and boosted his followership, even as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to dismiss his prospects.

Despite Adeyanju’s assertion, Obi’s alliance-building efforts suggest he remains a significant force within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, particularly among young voters and urban professionals who see him as a symbol of political change.

The Bigger Opposition Picture

Adeyanju also suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar currently has a stronger chance of securing the presidency than Obi, given his wider political structure and long-standing influence in Nigerian politics.

With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the opposition landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, as key figures like Obi and Atiku explore possible coalitions to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
