Edo Activist Arrested After Confrontation with Labour Party Chairman Abure
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
An Edo-based activist, Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, has been arrested by security operatives following a heated confrontation with the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to The Guardian, the incident, which unfolded on Saturday and has since gone viral on social media, has sparked mixed reactions across political circles, with conflicting accounts emerging from both camps.
How the Confrontation Began
Eyewitnesses told Akahi News that Mama Pee approached Abure while he was preparing to board a Max Air flight to Benin, accusing him of worsening Nigeria’s political and economic woes and fuelling the crisis within the Labour Party.
“Is this not Julius Abure? You’re the one frustrating Nigerians,” she reportedly said, before further berating him in the presence of passengers.
Upon arrival at Benin Airport, the situation allegedly escalated as Mama Pee was confronted by suspected loyalists of Abure, resulting in a scuffle that was captured in viral videos now circulating online.
Activist Claims Political Harassment
In one of her video recordings, Mama Pee alleged that she was assaulted by thugs linked to the LP chairman.
“They want to beat me after I told Julius Abure he is frustrating Nigerians. He brought thugs to harass me,” she claimed, insisting that she was exercising her right to free speech.
Another activist, Peter Akah, popularly known as Peter for Nigeria, called for her immediate release, appealing to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebolo and the Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika to intervene, describing Mama Pee as a victim of political violence who had been “wrongfully turned into a suspect.”
Labour Party Responds
Meanwhile, the Abure-led LP faction condemned what it described as an “unwarranted attack” on its chairman.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, the party alleged that Mama Pee harassed Abure both in Abuja and Benin, forcing security agents to intervene for his safety.
The party further accused the activist of “political provocation and cyberbullying,” urging the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Police Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of the time of this report, efforts by Akahi News to reach the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, for comments on the arrest were unsuccessful.
Political observers say the incident highlights growing tensions within the Labour Party and raises concerns over political intolerance and harassment in Nigeria’s democratic space.
