Emmanson Speaks on Ibom Air Incident: ‘I’m Traumatised, My Body Was Used for Stickers’

Passenger Recounts Ordeal on Uyo–Lagos Flight

Comfort Emmanson, the passenger at the centre of the widely reported Ibom Air fracas, has spoken out about her experience, describing it as deeply traumatising and humiliating. The incident occurred on August 10, 2025, during a flight from Uyo to Lagos, when Emmanson was asked to switch off her mobile phone before take-off.

Akahi News learnt that despite assistance from a fellow passenger in switching off the device, the confrontation with a flight attendant identified as Juliana (or Julian Edwards) quickly escalated. What began as a dispute over phone usage soon spiralled into a physical altercation that has since dominated public discussion.

Humiliation After Landing in Lagos

According to Emmanson, on arrival in Lagos, the situation worsened when she was allegedly blocked from disembarking by the cabin crew. She recounted how her wig was dragged off, her clothes torn, jewellery broken, and her personal belongings damaged.

In a painful revelation, she disclosed that the encounter was filmed and circulated on social media, leaving her body exposed to the public. “I feel traumatised, my dignity was stripped from me, and my body is now being used as stickers online,” she lamented.

Akahi News gathered that the viral spread of the video has compounded her ordeal, making her afraid to go out and raising concerns over her reputation and career in real estate.

Legal Fallout and Flight Ban

In the immediate aftermath, Emmanson was arrested, charged with assault and public disturbance, and remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. She also faced a lifetime flight ban imposed by Ibom Air and endorsed by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

However, the Federal Government later intervened. Following directives from the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, the charges were withdrawn and the lifetime ban was lifted, citing her remorse and willingness to cooperate.

Nigerian Bar Association and Public Reactions

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) strongly condemned the treatment meted out to Emmanson. The association described the circulation of the video as a violation of her privacy and dignity, demanding an independent investigation, a public apology, and accountability from those responsible.

Public opinion has also been sharply divided, with many calling for reforms in airline staff training and better safeguards for passengers’ rights. Some civil groups have urged for improved mental health support for victims of such traumatic experiences.

₦500 Billion Lawsuit Filed

Akahi News learnt that Emmanson has now taken legal action, filing a ₦500 billion lawsuit against the Federal Government, NCAA, AON, and other stakeholders. She accused them of selective justice and aviation impunity, citing differences in the way her case was handled compared to other high-profile incidents involving celebrities.

The case is expected to test the boundaries of passenger rights, corporate responsibility, and privacy in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Ongoing NCAA Probe

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced a full investigation into the incident, meeting separately with Ibom Air crew members and Emmanson. Findings from the probe are expected to influence future regulations on passenger conduct, airline protocols, and staff response mechanisms.

A Traumatic Chapter Yet to Close

For Emmanson, the scars remain. “I cannot go out freely anymore. My body is out there on the internet, and my reputation has been ruined,” she said. Her story continues to spark debate nationwide on dignity, justice, and accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
