The ambitious project involves the construction of a 194-kilometre water pipeline network designed to enhance water accessibility across the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Akahi News gathered that the project, set for completion by June 2026, has already received 50% of the approved contract sum to ensure timely execution.

During the flag-off ceremony, Minister Wike reiterated the administration’s commitment to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s promise of extending critical infrastructure to satellite towns. He highlighted ongoing projects in Bwari and outlined future expansions to Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Abaji within the President’s first term. The Minister also called on local leaders and youths to support the executing contractor, China Geoengineering Construction (CGC), for the successful delivery of the project.

In addition, Minister Wike noted the recent rehabilitation of the 17-kilometre access road connecting Karu to Karshi, which had previously been largely impassable. He urged residents to continue supporting leaders with proven records in infrastructure development to promote sustainable growth in the region.

Community reactions have been largely positive, with residents expressing hope that the project will alleviate water scarcity and improve living conditions. Akahi News learnt that local stakeholders have promised to cooperate fully with contractors to ensure smooth implementation.

The Karu Water Supply Project represents a critical step toward bridging infrastructural gaps in Abuja’s satellite towns and aligns with the federal government’s broader agenda of enhancing public utilities and improving quality of life.
