FCT Police Arrest 11 Suspected Drug Dealers, Recover 68 Bags of Cannabis in Major Abuja Crackdown
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking following the arrest of 11 suspected drug dealers and the seizure of 68 large bags of suspected cannabis in Abuja. The operation, which police officials described as a major success in dismantling criminal supply chains, was carried out by the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Unit in a series of carefully coordinated raids.

Major Operation Targets Drug Hotspots in the Capital
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, explained that the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering on identified drug hotspots across the territory. She disclosed that the raids were executed with precision to avoid civilian casualties while ensuring the swift arrest of the suspects.
According to Adeh, the latest crackdown reflects the Command’s growing determination to rid Abuja communities of the rising menace of illegal drug networks.
“The FCT Police Command remains fully committed to dismantling drug syndicates and safeguarding residents from the devastating effects of narcotics abuse,” Adeh said, urging the public to assist security agencies by providing credible information about criminal activities in their areas.
Recovered Items and Ongoing Investigations
Akahi News gathered that apart from the 68 bags of cannabis seized during the raid, several items believed to be linked to the suspects’ illicit operations were recovered. Police investigators are reportedly scrutinising the suspects’ communications and movements to trace possible links to larger drug cartels operating within and outside the FCT.
Security analysts say such seizures often represent only a fraction of the overall supply chain, but coordinated arrests like this weaken the networks significantly, preventing further circulation of illicit substances.
Police Urge Public Cooperation as Crackdown Continues
In a public advisory, the Command encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its official emergency numbers: 08061581938, 08032003913, and the Complaint Response Unit line 08107314192.
The police further assured that similar operations would continue across Abuja as part of broader security strategies aimed at curbing rising drug-related crimes, youth addiction, and gang violence within the territory.
Broader Implications for Security in the FCT
Observers believe the latest arrests highlight both the scale of drug trafficking in Nigeria’s capital and the renewed commitment of law enforcement to address it. Drug abuse has been linked to violent crimes in recent years, with security agencies often citing narcotics as a driving factor behind armed robbery, cultism, and street violence in urban centres.
The FCT Police Command’s latest success, therefore, signals a potentially significant shift in curbing such threats while reassuring residents of ongoing efforts to make Abuja safer.
Akahi News learnt that the suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. Police officials have vowed that the crackdown on illicit drugs will remain a top priority in the coming months.
