The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for Corps Members to N77,000, effective from July 2024.

This new allowance is N7,000 higher than the recently enacted national minimum wage.
The approval was detailed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.
According to a press release by Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for the NYSC, the increment aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which sets the minimum wage at N70,000.
The statement highlighted that the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had previously met with the NSIWC chairman to advocate for enhanced welfare for Corps Members.
The NYSC Director General expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely approval, emphasizing that it will provide significant relief to Corps Members, boost their morale, and encourage them to excel in their national service.
