Inclusivity and the Case for Igede Leadership in Yala Local Government Area.
By Clement Alegu PhD
The beauty of any diverse society lies in its ability to embrace and uplift every group, tribe, zone, etc, ensuring that no one is left behind. In Yala Local Government Area, which comprises several ethnic groups, inclusivity is not just a moral imperative but a pathway to sustainable development. The Igede people, one of the major tribes in Yala Local Government Area who are residents in Yala 1 and 2 Constituencies, have contributed significantly to the growth of the local government over the years. However, despite their population and contributions, no Igede person has ever occupied the position of Chairman since the creation of Yala Local Government Area 33 years ago.

This exclusion is not just a historical oversight, but a clear call for change. Inclusivity is essential for unity, fairness, and progress. Ensuring that the Igede people are given the opportunity to serve in key leadership roles, like that of Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, will foster a sense of belonging and inspire confidence in the governance process. It will send a strong message that Yala is a place where all groups, no matter their size, are valued and have the opportunity to contribute to decision-making and leadership.
We, therefore, appeal to the stakeholders of Yala Local Government Area to consider this issue with fairness and equity in mind. For over three decades, the Igede people have been patient, loyal, and dedicated, asking for nothing more than to be included in the leadership structure of their local government. Now is the time to change the vjote the overall development of Yala.
Inclusivity is not just about sharing power, but about ensuring that the aspirations and potentials of all groups are harnessed for the common good. An Igede chairman will bring fresh perspectives, ideas, and a renewed sense of unity to Yala. Even the Almighty God and the angels will rejoice in a community that upholds fairness and equality, where everyone is given a chance to serve and lead.
