Former Senator Elisha Abbo Arrested Over Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old

The police have arrested former Adamawa North Senator, Elisha Abbo, over allegations that he raped a 13-year-old girl in Abuja. The case is currently being investigated by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).

Akahi News learnt that the minor’s family accused the former lawmaker of repeatedly offering money to silence them. They also alleged that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) visited their home to appeal that the matter be kept out of public knowledge.
As of Thursday, Abbo remained in custody while the investigation continued.
Allegations of Assault
According to family sources, the alleged assault took place on 29 June 2025 at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with many Nigerians demanding justice and transparency in the handling of the case.
A Pattern of Scandals
This is not the first time Abbo has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. In 2019, he was caught on camera assaulting a woman in an Abuja shop, sparking national outrage. More recently, he was linked to a sex tape scandal involving a married woman.
Analysts told Akahi News that the latest allegation further deepens his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most controversial politicians.
Public Reactions
The report has dominated conversations on social media and online platforms. On Nairaland, many commentators described the incident as “evil” and called for Abbo’s prosecution. Others warned that the case must not be swept under the carpet due to his political connections.
Some dissenting voices, however, suggested that the allegation may be politically motivated, reflecting the divided opinions about his career.
Demand for Accountability
Rights groups and legal experts have called on the police to ensure a thorough investigation. They also questioned the absence of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a case involving sexual abuse of a minor.
Observers insist that how this matter is handled could serve as a major test of Nigeria’s commitment to protecting children and holding powerful individuals accountable.
While the police have yet to make a formal statement, legal analysts noted that Abbo could face severe penalties if convicted. For now, all eyes remain on the FCID as Nigerians demand swift and transparent justice.
Akahi News will continue to track updates as the case unfolds.
