Akahi News gathered that Ogbu, in a viral video released on Saturday night, pleaded with the Imo State Government and security agencies to withdraw security operatives from the White House area in Okigwe Local Government Area. He warned that failure to meet this demand within four days would lead to his execution by his captors.

The footage also featured masked insurgents accusing the government of poisoning their leader, identified as Gentle, and threatening further violence if their demands were ignored.

Police Confirm Abduction, Begin Manhunt

Speaking to journalists on Sunday evening, Imo Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the abduction, stating that Ogbu was kidnapped on September 7th, 2025, in Onuimo Local Government Area.

According to Okoye, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed tactical units in collaboration with other security agencies to locate the insurgents and rescue the former lawmaker unharmed.

“The Command is aware of the video showing Hon. Ngozi Ogbu being held hostage by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists. A detailed investigation is underway, and a manhunt for his abductors has commenced,” Okoye said.

Public Urged to Assist with Information

The Police have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and report any useful information to aid the rescue efforts via 0803 477 3600 or the nearest police station.

Reassuring Imo residents, Okoye emphasised that security agencies would not relent until the perpetrators were apprehended and Ogbu safely reunited with his family.

Rising Tension in Okigwe

Akahi News learnt that Ogbu, a former local government chairman and lawmaker, was allegedly targeted for his role in bringing Ebubeagu security operatives to the region. The abductors have since warned of unleashing further attacks if security forces remain stationed at White House in Okigwe.

The situation has sparked tension across communities in Okigwe and neighbouring areas, with residents calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
