Ferdinand Ayim, in his recent writing, argues that the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in Cross River State has experienced a new wave of responsive and people-oriented representation under the leadership of Hon. Godwin Offiono.
In his article titled Ogoja/Yala: A People-Centred Leadership with Hon. Godwin Offiono, Ayim praised the lawmaker’s remarkable strides within just two years in office, noting that despite being a first-time legislator, Hon. Offiono has delivered purposeful representation that stands out in the region’s democratic journey.
A New Dawn in Ogoja/Yala Representation
Ayim noted that since Nigeria’s return to democracy, leaders have come and gone in Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, but none has connected so closely with the people or delivered so intentionally like Hon. Offiono.
Describing him as dependable, accessible, and responsive, Ayim wrote that the lawmaker has redefined representation by prioritising the needs of his constituents and focusing on impactful projects across sectors such as empowerment, infrastructure, education, and security.
“Within just two years and with limited resources, Hon. Offiono has remained true to his promises. He represents a practical example of intentional and purposeful leadership,” Ayim remarked.
Major Achievements of Hon. Offiono
According to Ayim, Hon. Offiono’s achievements cut across multiple sectors, including:
- Youth Empowerment & Job Facilitation: As Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Police Institutions, he facilitated the recruitment of many constituents into the Nigerian Police Force and the Police Academy (POLAC), opening doors of opportunity for young people in Ogoja and Yala.
- Access to Clean Water: Recognising the struggles of rural communities, he championed the construction of solar-powered boreholes across villages, ensuring access to clean drinking water.
- Infrastructure Development: He facilitated the grading of roads, construction of community streets, and installation of solar streetlights to improve security and nightlife across the constituency.
- Financial & Agricultural Support: Hon. Offiono provided business grants, agricultural inputs, and financial assistance to farmers and small business owners, boosting local economic activities.
- Legislative Impact: Beyond physical projects, Ayim noted that the lawmaker has moved several motions and sponsored people-centred bills, including one advocating for the creation of Ogoja State, a long-standing demand of Cross River North residents.
Contributions Beyond the Constituency
Ferdinand Ayim also highlighted that Hon. Offiono’s contributions transcend Ogoja/Yala. At the national level, his motions, debates, and legislative inputs reflect a commitment to Nigeria’s growth, security reforms, and youth empowerment.
“This is the kind of leadership we all voted for — leadership rooted in service, intentionality, and results,” Ayim emphasised.

With the next general elections gradually approaching, Ayim expressed confidence that the people of Ogoja/Yala would support continuity, not only for Hon. Offiono but also for Dist. Sen. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the Senator representing Cross River North, whom he described as a workaholic and a dependable partner in progress.
He concluded that the Offiono-Jarigbe collaboration has brought tangible development to the region, and sustaining it beyond 2027 would guarantee more infrastructural projects, empowerment schemes, and legislative successes for the constituency.
