The Lectors of SS Peter & Paul Pro-Cathedral in Lagere, Ile-Ife, Osun State, came together once again to celebrate the Patron Saint Day, “The Conversion of St. Paul,” a tradition observed every January 25. Prior to the feast day, an eleven-day prayer session was conducted to address various intentions, including remembering deceased parish Lectors.

The culmination of the celebration occurred on January 25, with a Mass bringing the Lectors together. The following day, on January 26, an hour with the Lord featured exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a talk, burning of written intentions, and benediction. During this event, Associate Priest Rev Fr Andrew Fasina emphasized the importance of daily Bible study for Lectors, linking Lectorship to the journey into Priesthood. He urged them to embody their Lectorship identity, as the words they proclaim carry significant power, drawing parallels to the conversion of St. Paul through hearing the Word of God.
On January 27, the focus shifted to reflection and planning for improved performance. Members discussed both positive and negative aspects of their experiences in 2023, addressing how to overcome shortcomings. Notably, moments of humor and laughter arose as members shared personal stories, including what led them into the Ministry and their most memorable mistakes during performances.
President Mr. Sam commended the dedication of all members, recognizing Lectors and Altar servers as the liturgical groups consistently active throughout the year. He emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes rather than quitting the Ministry, stating that perseverance and dedication lead to improvement. Mr. Sam advised against reading to impress listeners, urging a spiritual disposition instead.
The Patron, Pa Oyewole F.O., an active member, encouraged everyone to stay focused, advising young lectors to respect and listen to their teachers. Special recognition was given to Miss Catherine Moyosore Oke, awarded the “God’s Word 2024” for being the most frequent youth lector of the year. Miss Emmanuella Famoriyo and Miss Oyinye Joseph received monetary gifts for their dedication.
