Lent 2026: “Activate the Grace of Prayer with Courage,” Rev. Fr Pius Urges Faithful
As the Lenten journey deepens, Rev. Fr Pius Odediran has called on Christians to rekindle their prayer life with boldness, trust, and spiritual confidence, reminding the faithful that God remains present even in moments of fear and uncertainty.
In his Lenten message for Thursday, 26th February 2026, titled “Activate the Grace of Prayer in You with Courage,” the priest reflected on the readings from Esther 1:3–4, 11, 13–14 and Matthew 7:7–12, urging believers to embrace prayer not as a last resort but as a lifeline anchored in faith.

Esther: A Model of Courage in Crisis
Drawing from the story of Esther, Rev. Fr Odediran highlighted the queen’s extraordinary trust in God during a season of grave danger. Esther, faced with uncertainty and potential disaster, did not allow fear to paralyse her. Instead, she turned to prayer with faith and courage.
According to insights gathered by Akahi News, the priest emphasised that Esther’s strength did not come from political influence or personal confidence alone, but from her deep reliance on divine intervention. Her example, he noted, remains relevant in a world where many struggle with anxiety, disappointment, and seemingly insurmountable storms.
“Like Esther, we often face moments of great danger,” he explained. “But prayer gives us courage to act even when circumstances appear hopeless.”
God Is Bigger Than Our Problems
Rev. Fr Odediran reminded Christians that trusting God does not guarantee instant solutions. Rather, it provides the grace to endure and confront challenges with unwavering faith.
Akahi News learnt that he stressed the importance of remembering that God is always present—even in the darkest valleys of life. Feelings of helplessness or discouragement, he said, should drive believers closer to God, not away from Him.
He further explained that while answers to prayer may not always come in the expected form, God responds according to His divine wisdom and love. “His will,” he noted, “is sufficient for us.”
This perspective, he added, transforms prayer from a transactional request into a relational encounter with a loving Father.
Ask, Seek, Knock: A Call to Confident Prayer
Reflecting on the Gospel passage in Matthew 7:7–12, the priest underscored Jesus’ invitation to “ask, seek, and knock.” These words, he said, are not symbolic rhetoric but a clear mandate for bold and consistent prayer.
Akahi News reports that Rev. Fr Odediran urged believers to approach God with confidence and assurance, dispelling doubts that often hinder prayer. Many Christians, he observed, hesitate to pray because they feel unworthy, sinful, or believe their needs are too trivial.
However, the Gospel assures that God is a loving Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children. Prayer, he emphasised, extends beyond material requests; it encompasses seeking guidance, strength, wisdom, and spiritual growth.
To “knock,” he explained, means actively pursuing God’s presence with expectation—trusting that the door will be opened in His perfect time.
Rebuilding the Lenten Prayer Life
A key theme of the message was the call to rebuild and intensify one’s prayer life during Lent. Rev. Fr Odediran encouraged Christians to “activate the threefold function” received at baptism—the roles of King, Priest, and Prophet.
According to Akahi News, he explained that these spiritual identities empower believers to pray with authority, intercede for others, and proclaim God’s Word with conviction. Embracing these roles, he said, strengthens courage and deepens spiritual resilience.
The Lenten season, therefore, is not merely a period of sacrifice but an opportunity for renewal—a time to strengthen one’s relationship with God through disciplined and heartfelt prayer.
A Season of Trust and Renewal
As Christians continue the Lenten journey, Rev. Fr Odediran’s message serves as both encouragement and challenge: trust God wholeheartedly, pray courageously, and refuse to allow doubt to silence faith.
Akahi News will continue to follow reflections and spiritual guidance emerging throughout this sacred season, providing readers with insights that nurture faith and inspire purposeful living.
In a world often overshadowed by uncertainty, the call to “ask, seek, and knock” remains a timeless assurance that God listens—and responds—in His own perfect way.
