The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has extended a gesture of solidarity and support to renowned gospel singer, broadcaster, and Chairman of Fresh FM 105.9, Dr. Yinka Ayefele, following the recent fire outbreak that devastated parts of his Music House complex in Ibadan.

On Tuesday, the governor presented a brand-new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to Ayefele as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the losses incurred during last Friday’s inferno, which destroyed sections of the iconic media hub and left property worth millions of naira in ruins.

A Symbol of Encouragement

Speaking during the presentation at the Music House, Challenge, Ibadan, Governor Makinde—represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo—commended Ayefele for his enduring contributions to the state’s media and entertainment sector despite repeated challenges.

According to Ojo, the governor’s intervention was not only a show of sympathy but also a recognition of Ayefele’s resilience in the face of adversity.

“On behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government, we are here to commiserate with you. You remain a symbol of perseverance and inspiration to millions of Nigerians. This gesture is a token of support to encourage you to keep pushing forward,” he said.

The commissioner further stressed that the administration values institutions like Fresh FM, which have continued to shape public opinion, provide employment, and promote the cultural and entertainment landscape of Oyo State.

Ayefele’s Emotional Response

Dr. Yinka Ayefele, who was visibly touched by the governor’s intervention, received the keys to the SUV with a mixture of relief and gratitude. He described the donation as a timely boost at a period when he and his team were still struggling to come to terms with the magnitude of their losses.

In his words, the fire incident had been a major setback, but the governor’s support rekindled his hope and reinforced his commitment to continue delivering quality broadcasting and gospel music. Ayefele also expressed appreciation to staff, fans, and sympathisers who had stood by him since the unfortunate incident.

Governor’s Swift Response to Crisis

Governor Makinde had earlier visited the Music House, just a day after the outbreak, to personally sympathise with Ayefele and assess the extent of damage to the facility. His prompt intervention and subsequent donation of the SUV have been widely interpreted as a demonstration of his government’s responsiveness and commitment to supporting private enterprises contributing to Oyo State’s growth.

The Music House, home to Fresh FM 105.9, is not only a radio station but also a cultural landmark in Ibadan, attracting audiences across the South-West and beyond. Over the years, it has become a symbol of Ayefele’s personal story of triumph over adversity, given his journey from life-threatening accident to becoming a household name in Nigeria’s entertainment and media space.

Broader Implications

The governor’s gesture has also been hailed by media stakeholders as a sign of recognition for the critical role played by independent broadcasters in fostering civic engagement, shaping discourse, and providing opportunities for local talents. Many believe that the state’s intervention could serve as an encouragement for other governments to forge stronger partnerships with private media outfits, which often serve as vital links between leadership and the people.

As reconstruction work begins at the Music House, Governor Makinde’s donation stands as a reminder of the importance of solidarity in times of crisis. For Ayefele and Fresh FM, it is both a lifeline and a powerful message that resilience in the face of trials will continue to be recognised and rewarded.
