According to him, “We visited my father, His Royal Majesty Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, to pay homage earlier today. The visit gave us an opportunity to discuss preparations for the coronation ceremony which will be held soon. We are so proud of our traditional institution in Ibadanland and its unique succession system.”
Coronation Preparations Underway
Following the governor’s approval of his nomination, Oba Ladoja is set to be officially crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan on September 26, 2025. The event is expected to draw prominent dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and Ibadan indigenes from across Nigeria and beyond.
Preparations are already in top gear to ensure the coronation reflects the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland. Cultural performances, traditional rites, and community-wide festivities are being arranged to make the event a memorable one.

The Significance of Ibadan’s Succession System
Ibadan’s traditional leadership system is respected for its orderly and transparent succession process, which ensures peace and stability. Unlike other parts of the country where royal disputes often drag on for years, Ibadanland has maintained a unique hierarchy that allows for smooth ascension to the throne.
Oba Ladoja, who served as Governor of Oyo State between 2003 and 2007, is a respected elder statesman with deep political influence and a strong connection to the grassroots. His ascension to the Olubadan throne is widely regarded as both historic and symbolic, combining governance experience with traditional authority.
Community Expectations
Excitement continues to grow among Ibadan indigenes ahead of the coronation. Many believe Oba Ladoja’s reign will foster unity, strengthen cultural pride, and promote socio-economic progress in Ibadanland. The coronation is also seen as an opportunity to showcase the resilience of Yoruba tradition and its continuing role in Nigeria’s modern society.
With Oba Rashidi Ladoja set to become the 44th Olubadan, Ibadan is once again preparing to make history by blending its rich cultural heritage with a future of unity and progress.
