A Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State, has sentenced Dr. Geraldine Orok Ita, a medical expert, to seven years in prison for fraud totaling N127 million. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted her on 12 counts of forgery and fund diversion.

The case, which lasted six years, was presided over by Justice Rosemary Oghogho-rie. Ita’s legal troubles began in 2019 when Sharpnet Concept Limited and ROK Project Limited accused her of forging company documents. She allegedly removed the original directors from the records, claimed to be the second wife of a deceased engineer, and altered the companies’ details, including appointing a new secretary and changing the registered address.
One charge stated that on November 6, 2014, Ita forged an annual return document for Sharpnet Concept Limited, falsely signed by a director. Another charge accused her of receiving N45 million from the University of Calabar for a project, knowing the funds were linked to her fraudulent activities.
