Disagreement Over Cancellation of Nkot Mbok Masquerade Festival
A disagreement has erupted between supporters of the Cross River State government and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong over the cancellation of the annual Nkot Mbok masquerade festival in Calabar.

The festival, scheduled for last Saturday, was suspended by the Security Adviser to the Governor, Maj.-Gen. U.O Obono, citing potential insecurity concerns. Gen. Obono declared the festival illegal, accusing organizers of non-compliance with the Masquerade (Control) Law of Cross River State.
However, a state government official disputed this claim, stating that security reports suggested the event could be hijacked by external parties for ulterior motives. The official’s identity was not disclosed.
