NDA Regular Course 29 Reaffirms Loyalty to Nigerian Military at 2025 AGM in Osun State
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Regular Course 29 has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s military institutions in fostering national stability, civil-military harmony, and patriotic service to the nation.
This pledge was made during the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Course 29, held on Friday at the palace of the Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Adekunle Oyelude Makama (CON), in Osun State.
The Olowu’s palace, fondly referred to by locals as the “Army Headquarters in the Forest,” has long been celebrated for its strong and enduring relationship with Nigeria’s military establishment. This year’s gathering reinforced that legacy, drawing together distinguished retired and serving officers in a display of camaraderie, unity, and national pride.
Speaking to journalists, Oba Makama — himself a proud member of Course 29 — described the cultural and military significance of hosting the event.
“This visit holds a great meaning within military tradition. We call it a sit-out. Course 29 holds its AGM every year — last year, it was Maiduguri. For 2025, Osun State was chosen, and I was privileged as a distinguished member to host this historic gathering,” he said.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the Armed Forces, the monarch added: “The Nigerian military has our support at all times,” stressing his palace’s dedication to national unity, civil-military understanding, and unwavering service to the country.
President of the NDA Regular Course 29 Association, Commodore Mathew Bolaji, lauded the group’s enduring cohesion and sense of purpose.
“This is Course 29. We sit and plan how to chart our course further. We’re holding this year’s AGM in Osogbo, but one of the most important activities is our visit to the palace. Kabiyesi is one of us, and I’m very proud of him,” he stated.
Also present was Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (Rtd), a highly respected figure in Nigeria’s defence circles, who highlighted the symbolic importance of the sit-out.
“Kabiyesi, the Olowu of Kuta, is not only a revered traditional ruler but a long-standing friend of the military. He also shares a personal bond with my boss, Ambassador Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (Rtd), who would have loved to be here but is currently out of the country,” he noted.
The event commenced with an interfaith prayer session — a Christian invocation led by Mr Ajeroba and an Islamic prayer offered by Mr Musa — symbolising the unity and religious tolerance that characterise the military community. A minute of silence was observed in honour of fallen comrades, underscoring the solemn respect held for those who paid the ultimate price in service.
The 2025 Course 29 sit-out in Kuta stands as a testament to the enduring link between Nigeria’s military tradition and cultural heritage — where the beat of royal drums meets the discipline of the parade ground, and past glories inspire a united vision for the nation’s future.
