Senator Ned Nwoko has reacted strongly to the recent drug test publicly shared by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, describing the move as misleading and insufficient to address what he alleges are deeper, unresolved issues.
Regina Daniels had earlier disclosed that she submitted herself for a drug test in the United Kingdom, with results indicating no drugs in her system. According to her, the decision was driven by a desire to clear her name and ensure that her children would “know the truth and take pride” in her, following allegations of substance abuse reportedly made by her estranged husband.

However, reacting in a detailed statement, Senator Nwoko dismissed the significance of the test, insisting that a negative result at a particular moment does not amount to proof of sobriety.
“Temporary Abstinence Is Not Sobriety”
In his response, Senator Nwoko stated unequivocally: “Don’t be fooled: temporary abstinence is not sobriety.” He argued that a single test, conducted at a time of one’s choosing, does not erase or invalidate earlier assessments that allegedly pointed to drug and alcohol use.
According to him, recovery and accountability are not matters to be settled through social media posts or public engagements, but through sustained honesty and long-term professional support. Akahi News gathered that he questioned the conditions under which the UK test was conducted, describing them as unclear.
Reference to Earlier Assessments
Senator Nwoko further claimed that previous findings of drug and alcohol use were established through assessments conducted by two independent and reputable centres in Nigeria and South Africa. He stated that these reports were professionally compiled, formally documented, and would be presented and defended in court, with the centres involved to be subpoenaed to testify.
Presenting a later negative test as proof that no prior use occurred, he said, was “misleading and disingenuous,” adding that at best, it only reflects abstinence over a limited period and does not negate what allegedly necessitated earlier intervention.
On MDMA and Accountability
Addressing references to MDMA, commonly known as Molly, Senator Nwoko cautioned against what he described as attempts to downplay its seriousness. He stressed that regardless of how casually it is referenced or repackaged in language, MDMA remains a drug, with known risks and effects on judgment and stability.
He maintained that healing is not episodic and that accountability should not be performative. According to him, genuine growth requires confronting reality and committing to long-term professional support, rather than relying on public declarations.
Court Orders and Custody Claims
The lawmaker also referenced a court judgement which, according to his statement, granted him custody and dismissed what he described as unsubstantiated human rights abuse claims brought forward last year. He added that the court ordered Regina Daniels to undergo supervised therapy with evidence of compliance.
Akahi News learnt that Senator Nwoko insisted he acted discreetly following the judgement, giving his estranged wife a window to seek help privately while encouraging professional care to enable her maintain a meaningful relationship with her children, away from media attention.
Call for Credible, Admissible Evidence
Reiterating his position, Senator Nwoko stated that any test conducted anywhere in the world would be subject to court scrutiny and must be defended when subpoenaed, just like the Nigerian and South African assessments. He added that, for clarity, the court may appoint a credible laboratory to independently verify all claims.
He concluded that accountability must be grounded in reality and supported by relevant, credible, and admissible evidence, stressing that “it is not time for drama.”
As the dispute continues to unfold, observers note that the matter now appears firmly headed for further legal scrutiny, with both parties maintaining sharply contrasting narratives.
