NIGCOMSAT Launches VSAT Installation and Space-Tech Hack Training in Cross River State

Calabar, Cross River State – The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, in collaboration with the Cross River State Government, has commenced a transformative VSAT Installation and Space-Tech Hack Training programme in Calabar, running from July 21 to 26, 2025. This five-day initiative, themed “Building Grassroots Innovation in Satellite Technology,” offers a unique opportunity for young Nigerians to acquire valuable skills and knowledge in satellite technology.

The programme, currently underway at the University of Calabar, targets 200 youths, with 150 participants receiving hands-on training in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems, and 50 engaging in a competitive Space-Tech Hackathon. Designed to bridge the digital divide and empower the next generation, the training equips participants with practical expertise to address broadband gaps in underserved areas, alongside fostering innovative satellite-driven solutions to real-world challenges.

Governor Bassey Otu, represented by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Justine Anonyi, emphasized the state’s commitment to advancing its digital future through this initiative. NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director, Jane Egerton-Idehen, highlighted the programme’s role in nurturing talent, stating that participants will gain industry-recognized certifications, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial prospects in the rapidly growing ICT sector.

The event, which began with enthusiastic participation, includes mentorship from industry experts and networking opportunities, setting the stage for a new wave of technological innovation.
