Nigerian Defence Academy Honours Outstanding Cadets at 72nd Regular Course POP

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, has celebrated its 72nd Regular Course Passing Out Parade (POP) with an impressive display of courage, discipline, and excellence. The colourful event, which also featured graduates of Short Service Course 48 (Army), Direct Short Service Course 33, and Branch Commission 2 (Air Force), saw 874 officer cadets commissioned into the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Sword of Honour and Gold Medal Winners
Among the highlights was the presentation of the prestigious Sword of Honour and Gold Medal (Army) to NDA/13050 ASUO SK Aliyu, who distinguished himself through outstanding academic and military performance.
Other Gold Medal recipients included:
- NDA/13097 CSUO IA Adewale – Gold Medal (Navy).
- NDA/12900 CDT JO Oyejide – Gold Medal (Air Force).
- SSC48/5582 CDT PT Lele – Gold Medal (SSC 41 AAMS).
- BC2/0074 CDT CE Nnamani – Gold Medal (DSC 41 BC2 Air Force).
Additionally, NDA/13391 CSUO JB Komo received the Allied Cadet Award of Excellence.
Commitment to Excellence
In his address, Major General AS Ndalolo, Chief of Training (Army), commended the Academy for its unwavering commitment to producing disciplined and capable officers who can defend Nigeria’s sovereignty. He described the Beating of Retreat and Prize Giving Ceremony as a timeless tradition that rewards exceptional cadets.
The NDA Commandant, Major General AK Ibrahim (OFR), reaffirmed that the institution remains dedicated to raising officers who are physically fit, morally upright, and mentally sound.
A Generation of New Leaders
The event was not just a graduation but a celebration of a new generation of leaders prepared to confront Nigeria’s pressing security challenges. Families, senior officers, members of the Nigerian Defence Academy Officers Wives Association (NDAOWA), and other dignitaries witnessed the ceremony.
The evening also featured combat demonstrations, silent drills, callisthenics, and a traditional bonfire, symbolising the conclusion of the training year.
Nigerians React
On platforms like Nairaland, Nigerians expressed mixed reactions. While many congratulated the cadets, some questioned the challenges facing the military, ranging from low starting salaries to political influence in promotions. Others raised concerns about the future roles of the new officers amidst Nigeria’s complex security environment.
As the newly commissioned officers take on their responsibilities, analysts note that their performance will be closely watched in light of Nigeria’s ongoing security struggles.
