NURTW President Appeals to Tinubu, NCAA, and Aviation Minister for Leniency on K1’s Ban
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to intervene in lifting the ban imposed on Fuji music icon, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and his pilot, Oluranti Ogoyi.

In a heartfelt statement, Akinsanya likened K1’s situation to that of a prodigal son, stating that the veteran musician has acknowledged his mistakes, expressed sincere remorse, and is willing to make amends. He called on the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, to temper justice with mercy over the incident that occurred at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s local wing in Abuja.
The NURTW President also extended an unreserved apology on behalf of K1 to the CEO of Value Jet, Mr. Kunle Soname, the airline’s staff, the pilot involved, and the general public. He highlighted K1’s five-decade-long contribution to Nigeria’s cultural promotion, especially his role in projecting Yoruba heritage across the globe.
Akinsanya urged the authorities to consider K1’s legacy and dedication to the nation, stressing that forgiveness in this case would uphold the values of compassion and humanity. “May we not throw away the baby with the bathwater,” he said, appealing for wisdom in decision-making.
The plea comes as fans and supporters of the Fuji legend await the outcome of the appeal, hoping for a resolution that balances justice with mercy.
