The much-anticipated 2025 Ukelle Cultural Festival is fast shaping up to be one of the most remarkable cultural showcases in recent years, drawing unprecedented attention both within and beyond Nigeria’s borders. The vibrant Ukelle land — celebrated as the land of peace, progress, and promise — is set to host an event that promises breathtaking cultural displays and a rich celebration of heritage.

According to the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the festival, Mr. Lawrence Ochadu, the enthusiasm surrounding this year’s event is overwhelming. Dignitaries from far and near, including representatives from the Orring and Akpa nations, are expected to grace the occasion. Hundreds of revered chiefs will be in attendance, alongside women, youths, and children, all specially prepared for the grand celebration. Preparations include procuring ingredients, food, souvenirs, and other essentials to match the scale and hype of the event.

The festival will feature an array of captivating activities such as the Ukelle Beauty Pageant, Ukelle Talent Hunt, Traditional Wrestling Competitions, and the Farmer with the Biggest Yam Contest. While these attractions add to the excitement, they also come with significant financial demands. Mr. Ochadu emphasised that in today’s challenging economic climate, financing such a large-scale event cannot be left to a few individuals.

He issued a clarion call to all sons and daughters of Ukelle — at home and in the diaspora — to contribute towards the festival’s success. Contributions, he said, need not be in millions; even as little as ₦500 or ₦1,000 can make a meaningful difference. Citing the famous words of Martin Luther King Jr., he urged: “If you can’t fly, drive. If you can’t drive, walk. If you can’t walk, run. If you can’t run, crawl. Whatever it is, keep moving. In our case — whatever it is, donate something.”

As the countdown begins, the question for every indigene remains: when the 2025 Ukelle Cultural Festival becomes a resounding success, will you be able to proudly say, “Yes, I contributed to this historic moment in Ukelle land”?

The organisers are determined to make Ukelle the pride of Cross River State and the darling of Nigeria, but they insist it will take unity, patriotism, and collective effort to achieve this vision.
