Obidient Movement Endorses Soludo for Second Term in Anambra, Cites Integrity and Performance
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Obidient Movement in Anambra State, led by Hon. Ikenna Azomchine, popularly known as Obidient General, has officially endorsed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for a second term in office, citing integrity, credibility, and performance as key reasons for their support.

During a press conference held in Awka on Monday, Azomchine — a prominent supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate — declared that members of the movement in Anambra have carefully assessed Governor Soludo’s administration and found it worthy of endorsement.
Speaking to journalists, Azomchine stated,
“We are disciples of good governance, and we have made the decision to support Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for a second term. We made this decision obediently, considering the qualities that we hold as ‘Obidients’ — integrity, performance, and credibility. These are the values we stand for as a movement.”
According to Akahi News, this development comes as a major political twist, considering the perceived tension between Peter Obi, a former Anambra governor, and Governor Soludo, who once criticised Obi’s economic model.
“No One Bribed Us — We Haven’t Even Met Soludo”
Hon. Azomchine clarified that the endorsement was not influenced by any form of financial inducement or political favour, emphasising that the decision stemmed purely from the group’s independent evaluation.
“We have not as little as met Soludo, and I can say openly that these Obidients you see here are the core Obidients in Anambra. We are doing this because we believe that those contesting against Soludo cannot defeat him,” he said, as reported by Akahi News.
He added that the movement’s decision reflects the will of true Obidients who value governance over partisanship.
“There Are More Obidients in APGA Than in Labour Party”
In a striking revelation, Azomchine told Akahi News that his findings showed that more members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election than Labour Party members themselves.
“I did my personal assessment and realised that there are more APGA Obidients than LP Obidients. Many of my relatives who are APGA members voted for Peter Obi in 2023. So, it’s only fair that we now support them by endorsing Soludo for re-election.”
He explained that the Obidient Movement’s support for Soludo does not mean they are joining APGA, but rather collaborating with the party’s supporters to ensure the continuation of good governance in the state.
“We are not becoming APGA members; we are only joining hands with APGA Obidients to re-elect Soludo, who has performed well. After the election, we will continue to support Peter Obi in 2027,” Azomchine assured.
Obidient Movement Joins APGA Rally, Donates Campaign Vehicles
According to Akahi News, after the press conference, Hon. Azomchine led members of the Obidient Movement to an APGA rally in Amawbia, Awka South, where they publicly declared support for Governor Soludo’s second-term bid.
In a show of commitment, Azomchine donated two campaign vehicles to aid the governor’s re-election campaign.
Political observers who spoke with Akahi News say the endorsement signals a potential shift in Anambra’s political landscape ahead of the next governorship election, as the Obidient Movement’s grassroots influence could bolster Soludo’s chances.
However, some Labour Party loyalists have expressed mixed feelings about the development, seeing it as a possible split in the Obidient ranks.
For now, it appears that the Obidients in Anambra are prioritising performance and credibility over political labels — a move that could reshape alliances ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial polls.
