Fresh concerns have emerged over the changing tactics of criminal elements in Nigeria following the arrest of a suspect in Ondo State who allegedly disguised himself as a mentally unstable man while secretly participating in kidnapping-related activities.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, during ongoing security operations within the state.

According to information gathered by akahinews.org, the suspect allegedly used the appearance of a homeless madman as a cover to move around communities freely without attracting suspicion from residents or security personnel.
Security sources reportedly disclosed that the unusual disguise enabled the suspect to monitor movements, gather information, and allegedly coordinate activities linked to a criminal network operating within parts of the state.
The development has left many residents shocked.
In many Nigerian communities, mentally unstable persons are often ignored, pitied, or avoided entirely. Few people imagine that such appearances could allegedly be used as operational cover by criminal gangs. But criminals, it appears, are constantly changing tactics.
And that reality is deeply troubling.

Growing Fear Over New Criminal Tactics
Akahi News learnt that security operatives have intensified investigations to determine whether the suspect acted alone or belonged to a larger kidnapping syndicate operating across Ondo State and neighbouring areas.
Authorities reportedly believe that some criminal groups are increasingly adopting unconventional disguises to evade detection and carry out surveillance activities unnoticed.
The case has once again highlighted growing insecurity concerns across parts of Nigeria where kidnapping, banditry, and organised crimes continue to threaten public safety.
Observers say the latest incident demonstrates how criminals now study community behaviour carefully before striking.
Who would suspect a wandering “madman” sitting quietly by the roadside? Who would imagine that someone appearing mentally unstable could allegedly be gathering intelligence for kidnappers?

These are the difficult questions many Nigerians are now asking.
Indeed, insecurity in modern Nigeria has forced citizens to become more cautious than ever before. Trust has reduced. Fear has increased. Communities now watch strangers more closely. Yet even at that, criminal tactics continue to evolve.
It is not a child’s play.
Amotekun Intensifies Operations
Amotekun authorities reportedly assured residents that efforts are ongoing to dismantle any criminal network connected to the suspect.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious movements or unfamiliar persons within their communities.
Security patrols have reportedly been strengthened across vulnerable locations as authorities attempt to prevent further security breaches.
Community leaders in parts of Ondo State have equally called on residents to cooperate fully with local security structures, stressing that intelligence sharing remains one of the strongest tools against kidnapping and violent crimes.
Many Nigerians believe local vigilance groups such as Amotekun have become increasingly important in complementing conventional security agencies, especially in rural and semi-urban communities where criminal activities often thrive unnoticed.
Still, concerns persist.
How long will ordinary Nigerians continue living under fear of abduction and violent crimes? When will communities regain full confidence in public safety again?
These questions continue to echo across many homes.
Meanwhile, educational stakeholders continue encouraging young Nigerians to remain focused on positive pathways despite growing social challenges. Akahi Tutors, Ile-Ife has continued assisting students preparing for WAEC, NECO, JUPEB, GCE, Post-UTME and School of Nursing entrance examinations into institutions such as OAU, UI, UNILAG, UNN, UNICAL and UNILORIN among others. Citizens Advised To Stay Alert
Security experts have repeatedly warned Nigerians against assuming that criminal elements always fit predictable appearances.
Across different parts of the country, suspects have allegedly disguised themselves as beggars, traders, commercial motorcyclists, and even religious figures to avoid attracting attention.
This latest Ondo case now adds another disturbing layer to the growing list of deceptive criminal strategies reportedly emerging across the country.
For many residents, the arrest may have prevented a more dangerous situation from unfolding.
But beyond the arrest itself lies a bigger lesson for society: vigilance can no longer be selective.
Sometimes danger hides behind the appearance people least expect.
