Ondo Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Violent Attack in Idanre, Recover Firearm and Weapons

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in a violent attack that left three people injured in Idanre, Ondo State.
Police Swiftly Apprehend Armed Suspects
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, and made available to The Hope newspaper, the suspects were arrested by officers attached to the Idanre Division following credible intelligence received in the early hours of October 6, 2025, at about 7:25 a.m.

According to preliminary investigations, one Abimbo Rotimi, aged 35, popularly known as “Officer Koi”, and his alleged accomplice, Joseph Innocent, aged 28 — both residents of Ehinpeti Street, behind White House, Idanre — were involved in the attack on an Indomie shop owned by one Henry (surname yet to be confirmed), and a nearby residence belonging to Abimbola Sunday.
Victims Injured, Police Recover Weapons
The police spokesperson explained that the suspects were armed with a locally-made pistol, a knife, and other dangerous weapons during the assault.
Three persons sustained varying degrees of injury:
- Henry suffered stab wounds on his fingers,
- Abimbola Sunday was bitten on the lower lip,
- and a commercial motorcyclist, Akinduko Akinbobola, sustained a stab wound on the head.
“Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Idanre Division, led a team of surveillance officers to the scene. Although the suspects had fled before their arrival, a prompt intelligence-led operation led to their arrest,” the statement said.
Items recovered from the suspects include one locally-made pistol, a kitchen knife, two pairs of scissors, and an axe.
Suspects in Custody as Investigation Deepens
DSP Ayanlade further revealed that the victims had been taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the suspects are currently cooperating with investigators. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Police Reassure Public of Safety
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the Idanre Divisional Police Team for their swift response and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
