Massive Turnout Signals Early Momentum in Governorship Race

Political activities ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election intensified on Monday as a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Peter Ogundeji, popularly known as APATA, led a large crowd of supporters in a “Walk-to-Live” rally in Ikire.

The rally, held under the banner “Ayedaade-Isokan-Irewole Federal Constituency Walk to Live for AMBO 2026,” attracted participants from Ayedaade, Isokan, and Irewole Local Government Areas, with supporters trekking several kilometres in a show of solidarity for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji.

According to Akahi News, the event is one of the early large-scale grassroots mobilisations ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

But beneath the energy of the crowd lies a deeper question: Do rallies truly reflect electoral strength, or are they merely moments of political enthusiasm?

APC Leaders Express Confidence in Victory

Addressing newsmen during the rally, the APC Deputy Governorship candidate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, particularly highlighting the strong participation of youths.

He described the mobilisation as a clear indication of growing support for Oyebamiji, citing his plans for youth development, education, and healthcare as key drivers of the enthusiasm.

Adereti further claimed that a significant percentage of votes, particularly from Ile-Ife and Ikire, would favour the APC candidate, projecting a decisive victory over the incumbent administration.

According to Akahi News, he maintained that the party’s confidence is rooted in what he described as widespread dissatisfaction with the current government.

Yet, this invites reflection: Are voter sentiments truly shifting, or are political actors interpreting the mood through partisan lenses?

APATA Emphasises Unity and Grassroots Mobilisation

Chief Peter Ogundeji, the organiser of the rally, noted that the exercise was designed to strengthen party unity and deepen grassroots engagement.

He revealed that participants covered over three kilometres, describing the turnout as evidence of the party’s acceptance within the constituency.

He added that such initiatives are crucial in building momentum and ensuring coordinated efforts toward electoral victory.

Akahi News gathered that the APC is increasingly focusing on community-level mobilisation as a strategic approach to consolidating support.

Youth leaders within the party also played a prominent role in the rally, emphasising the importance of engaging young voters ahead of the election.

Osun APC Youth Leader, Ibrahim Olagoke, described the rally as part of ongoing efforts to demonstrate the party’s readiness and organisational strength.

Similarly, Osun West APC Youth Leader, Mojeed Adekunle, expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, noting that his perceived youth-friendly disposition and choice of running mate have enhanced his appeal.

According to Akahi News, youth engagement is emerging as a central theme in the evolving political narrative in Osun State.

Also speaking, APC Chairman in Irewole Local Government, Owoade Adegoke, described the turnout as a reflection of increasing support for the party.

He expressed optimism that the APC would secure victory in the forthcoming election, citing the level of mobilisation already achieved.

As political activities continue to gain momentum across the state, analysts suggest that more rallies, consultations, and strategic alignments are expected in the coming months.

The “Walk-to-Live” rally in Ikire underscores the intensifying political climate in Osun State as parties position themselves ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
