Osun State Appoints Davido as Chairman of Sports Trust Fund to Revive Sporting Sector

The Osun State Government has appointed global Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, in a move aimed at revitalising and sustainably financing the state’s sports sector.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Sports, during a briefing on the state’s plans to reposition sports as a key driver of youth engagement and economic growth.
Davido to Lead Fundraising for Osun’s Sports Transformation
According to The Guardian Nigeria, the creation of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund forms part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader strategy to strengthen sports infrastructure, attract investors, and foster athletic excellence in the state.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment,” Adewusi announced. “His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
The government expressed optimism that Davido’s influence, both locally and internationally, would help mobilise private sector participation and financial support for the state’s sporting initiatives.
Osogbo Township Stadium to Meet Olympic Standards
Adewusi also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, stating that the upgraded facility will meet Olympic standards upon completion.
“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” the Deputy Governor assured.
He added that the Osun State Sports Commission was in the pipeline to serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation, ensuring long-term coordination and growth of the sector.
A Vision for Youth Empowerment and Global Exposure
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has repeatedly emphasised sports as a major pillar for youth empowerment, tourism, and job creation. With Davido at the helm of the Sports Trust Fund, analysts believe Osun State could soon emerge as a hub for talent discovery and international sporting events.
The move has already drawn positive reactions across social media, with many praising the state government for leveraging Davido’s global appeal to attract investment and spotlight Osun’s developmental agenda.
The Sports Trust Fund is expected to begin operations shortly, focusing on financing facility upgrades, youth training programmes, and partnerships with international sports organisations.
