Expanding Digital Opportunities in Osun State
The Osun State Government has officially launched Imole Wi-Fi, a free public internet service aimed at revolutionising digital access for residents, students, businesses, and communities across the state.

The initiative was unveiled on Monday in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who described it as a key milestone in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to fostering digital inclusion and innovation.
According to Alimi, Imole Wi-Fi will open doors for education, commerce, agriculture, healthcare, and public service delivery by removing barriers to internet access and creating new opportunities for learning, trade, and digital literacy.
Initial Rollout Locations and Services
The state government confirmed that the first phase of the Imole Wi-Fi rollout will focus on strategic government buildings and public institutions. These include the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, and various locations within the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy.
Governor Adeleke, while announcing the launch, emphasised that the project represents more than just internet connectivity.
“Imole Wi-Fi is a gateway to opportunity. With this public digital infrastructure, we are cutting barriers, connecting people, and driving growth across every sector of Osun’s economy,” he stated.
Government’s Vision for Digital Inclusion
The Special Adviser on Innovation and Digital Economy, Azeez Badmus, noted that the current launch represents only the beginning of the project’s expansion plan.
“This is just the first step. As we expand Imole Wi-Fi, more government services and sector-specific tools will follow, ensuring that every resident benefits from Osun’s digital future,” Badmus explained.
He further highlighted that the administration intends to integrate the free Wi-Fi service into key public areas over time, supporting e-governance, online learning, digital entrepreneurship, and tech-driven community development.
Driving Growth Through Technology
Akahi News gathered that the Osun State Government sees the Imole Wi-Fi project as a critical step towards positioning the state as a technology-friendly hub in Nigeria. With growing reliance on digital platforms for education, commerce, and governance, this initiative aligns with global trends pushing for universal internet access.
Experts believe that free public internet services like Imole Wi-Fi can significantly reduce the digital divide, especially in rural communities, enabling youths, students, and small business owners to compete in the fast-evolving digital economy.
The government also hinted that partnerships with private tech firms, NGOs, and education-focused organisations are being explored to sustain and expand the service across all local government areas in the near future.
What Residents Can Expect Next
With the initial phase now active, residents can expect gradual expansion to more schools, health facilities, markets, and other public locations across the state. Stakeholders in the education and business sectors have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and essential for modern development.
As Governor Adeleke’s administration pushes for digital inclusion, Imole Wi-Fi is set to become a model for how technology can drive growth, empower communities, and create access to opportunities in both urban and rural areas.
