Oyebanji Urges Ekiti Residents To Take Ownership Of Roads, Commissions Bovas-Spotless, Palace-Okeage-Idolofin Projects

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has called on residents to take full ownership of road infrastructure within their communities, stressing that maintaining and protecting them is vital to ensuring their durability and long-term value.
Governor Oyebanji made the appeal on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti during the commissioning of the newly completed Bovas–Spotless Road and Palace–Okeage–Idolofin Road projects, which formed part of activities marking his administration’s third anniversary.
Represented by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the governor reaffirmed his government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure across the state aimed at improving the people’s living standards. He noted, however, that the sustainability of such projects depends largely on the collective responsibility of the people.
“Let me urge all road users and residents to maintain and work together to preserve this road. It is an investment in our collective future, and we all have a role to play in maintaining it,” Oyebanji said.
Roads as Economic Lifelines
The governor emphasised that roads are more than just pathways for vehicles — they are lifelines that connect communities, promote trade, enhance security, and improve the overall quality of life.
According to Akahi News, Oyebanji added that the completion of the Palace–Oke-Age–Idolofin and Bovas–Spotless township roads will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and open new opportunities for economic growth within Ado-Ekiti and its environs.
He urged residents to desist from activities that could damage the roads, such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and unauthorised excavation along road shoulders.
“We will not rest on our oars in bringing the dividends of democracy to every part of Ekiti State. The development of our dear state is our collective responsibility,” the governor reaffirmed.
Commissioner Applauds Infrastructural Drive
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, described the project as a significant milestone in the administration’s drive to improve the livability, accessibility, and aesthetics of Ekiti State.
He noted that the Oyebanji-led government inherited several roads in deplorable condition and embarked on rehabilitation and reconstruction to ease traffic flow and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Adebayo also called on residents to take ownership of the newly commissioned roads and ensure their proper maintenance, warning against constructing illegal speed bumps or dumping waste into drainages.
Communities Pledge Support
Community leaders, Mr. Adebayo Folorunso and Chief Adetileyin, who spoke on behalf of the landlord associations, expressed gratitude to the governor for his developmental strides, describing the projects as life-changing.
They pledged continued support for Oyebanji’s administration and vowed to mobilise residents in large numbers to ensure his re-election for a second term to continue his transformative work.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habitat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi; Chief of Staff, Mr. Niyi Adebayo; members of the House of Assembly, and other top government officials.
