Former Governor Speaks on Channels Television
A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of orchestrating moves to destabilise opposition parties across Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Tambuwal alleged that the current government is interfering in the internal affairs of opposition groups in a bid to weaken dissenting voices.
“If I’m invited by the police I will appear; the interpretation and reading of meaning into the invitation is totally a different ball game altogether,” Tambuwal said. “Police need to be very circumspect going forward and I can’t say that they are wrong in the invitation.”
Alleged Interference in Party Politics
Tambuwal, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives before becoming governor and now senator, claimed that several developments within opposition political parties point to a deliberate attempt by the Tinubu administration to destabilise them.
“We are all sensible, and when you look at what is happening in various political parties in Nigeria today, you don’t need to be told the amount of denial that they, including Tinubu, are involved in destabilising efforts of opposition parties,” he said. “I’m saying that they are involved in efforts aimed at destabilising the opposition. I’m saying they are involved in the destabilisation efforts.”
Shock Over Governance Style
The former governor expressed dismay over the way the country is being governed under President Tinubu, stating that the administration’s approach has fallen far short of expectations.
“I’m shocked that under Tinubu’s watch, Nigeria is being run the way it’s run today, and I can’t say that I’m disappointed because I campaigned against him,” Tambuwal added.
No Official Response Yet
As of the time of this report, the Presidency has not issued any response to the senator’s allegations. However, political analysts told Akahi News that Tambuwal’s remarks reflect growing concerns among opposition leaders about what they perceive as shrinking political space and heightened executive interference in democratic institutions.
The comments are likely to stir fresh debate on the independence of political parties and the state of democracy in Nigeria as the 2027 general elections gradually draw closer.
