Sokoto Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Qur’anic Memorization, Donates to 111 Graduands

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting Qur’anic memorization among children across the state. The governor made this known during the graduation ceremony of 111 memorizers of the Glorious Qur’an from the Sokoto State branch of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation.
Islamic Propagation Takes Centre Stage
Governor Aliyu noted that fostering Qur’anic education remains a top priority in his Nine-Point Smart Agenda, ranking second only to security. He expressed confidence that producing a generation grounded in the teachings of Islam would strengthen moral values and promote peaceful coexistence in society.
“We have awarded contracts for the renovation of 65 Jumu’at Mosques, out of which 25 had since been completed and 15 successfully commissioned,” the governor revealed.
The governor further disclosed that his administration had introduced monthly financial allocations to Jumu’at mosques ranging from N300,000 to N500,000 depending on their category. In addition, monthly allowances have been approved for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state to support their religious duties.
Plans for Permanent School Site and Support for Graduands
Governor Aliyu directed the school management to identify a suitable land for the construction of a permanent site for the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation in Sokoto State and submit a proposal to the government for necessary action.
He congratulated the 111 graduating students for successfully memorizing the Holy Qur’an, praying that their knowledge would benefit the entire society.
At the event, the state government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, donated N20,000 and clothing materials to each of the graduands.
Commendations from Religious Leaders and Lawmakers
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, commended Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi for his vision in establishing the foundation, which continues to train children in Qur’anic memorization. He also praised scholars across the state for their efforts in promoting Islamic ideals and peaceful coexistence.
Similarly, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, represented by Dr. Aminu Sufi, encouraged parents to support their children in memorizing the Qur’an, stressing that the spiritual benefits extend beyond this world to the hereafter.
On his part, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, represented by Dr. Lawal Liman, donated N10 million to the graduands, another N10 million to the organisers, and N2 million plus food items to the school management. He pledged continuous support for the foundation’s mission of training young Qur’an memorizers.
Founder’s Vision and Call for More Schools
Represented by Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, the school proprietor, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, explained that the foundation’s vision was to ensure children could memorize the Qur’an within four years while staying in a structured learning environment. He stressed that expanding such schools across northern Nigeria would help curb the menace of street begging among children.
The ceremony ended with a Qur’anic recitation by the graduating students and the presentation of prizes to the top performers.
