Njideka King Foundation to Offer Scholarships, Empower 50 Kids with Barbing Skills in Abuja

The Njideka King Foundation, a non-governmental organisation committed to youth empowerment and education, has announced plans to train at least 50 children from the Tudunwada community in Abuja in barbing skills this summer.
According to AbujaPress, the initiative aims to provide the less privileged children with sustainable livelihood opportunities while also supporting their educational needs through scholarship funds.
Three-Week Intensive Training for Young Barbers
In a statement on Tuesday, the founder, Njideka King, explained that the project targets children between the ages of 10 and 16, ensuring they acquire practical skills early in life. The three-week programme will equip participants with modern barbing techniques and provide them with barbing kits, including clippers, brushes, and other tools.
“This is more than just a summer programme; it is a paradigm shift in youth empowerment. We are giving these children the opportunity to learn a skill that can sustain them, even as students,” Njideka King said.
The training will culminate in a practical showcase where the young barbers will demonstrate what they have learnt, offering free haircuts to children as part of a back-to-school initiative.
Scholarships for 10 Brilliant but Needy Students
Beyond skills acquisition, the Foundation also revealed plans to offset school fees for 10 academically gifted children from low-income families within the host school. This scholarship scheme, it noted, is designed to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent bright minds from pursuing their education.
“We want to catch them young, build their confidence, and help them become entrepreneurs while staying in school,” the statement added.
Building on Past Initiatives
The Njideka King Foundation has a history of youth-focused empowerment projects. Last summer, the NGO trained young ladies in soap and consumables production, equipping them with skills to start small-scale businesses.
This year’s project, combining barbing training, scholarship support, and community service through free haircuts, reflects the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable youth empowerment.
