Tension Rises in Ikale Communities Over Alleged Land Invasion by Private Firms

Serious tension has erupted in the Ikale communities of Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State, over alleged land invasions by private companies.
Indigenes of the affected areas—including Ikale community, Ago Alaye, and Agrifon—staged a protest at A1 and A9 locations, accusing the firms of intimidating genuine landowners and disregarding their rights. Protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Enough is Enough,” “We Say No to Rex Intimidation,” and “Ikale Communities Say No to Marginalization,” chanting solidarity songs and calling for an end to the firms’ activities.
Gabriel Adeyeye, the Youth Leader of the communities, told newsmen that the companies’ actions are threatening both livelihoods and community stability. “For many years, we’ve been intimidated and marginalized by the people of Araromi-Obu claiming they are the illegal owners of the land. We gave them the land, they took us to court, claiming ownership of the land. On May 13, 2019, a reputable judge then in Ondo State, Justice O.O. Akeredolu, delivered a judgement affirming categorically that this land, through historical background, belongs to Ikale,” he said.
Community leaders Omosebi Ikupuluy and Olawale Araromi also called for the intervention of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, expressing their displeasure with the firms’ alleged actions. The protests underscore growing concern over land rights, corporate conduct, and the need for harmony in the Ikale communities.
