Tragedy in Imo: Scores Feared Dead as Gunmen Invade Arondizuogu Communities

Panic and grief have gripped the Arondizuogu area of Ideato North Local Government Area in Imo State following a deadly attack by unidentified gunmen on Friday morning. The violent assault, which targeted the communities of Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno, has left scores feared dead and several others critically injured.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, DSP Okoye Henry, stated that “over seven persons” were brutally killed in the early morning raid. He added that while the confirmed death toll stands at over seven, more casualties are feared as many victims remain in critical condition.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma, strongly condemned the attack, labelling it as “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.”

“The senseless assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, is a direct affront to peace and security,” the CP stated, assuring residents that all resources would be deployed to apprehend those behind the killings.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as the attackers stormed the communities, shooting sporadically and instilling fear among villagers, many of whom have since fled their homes in search of safety.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the assailants, and increased patrols have been deployed in the affected areas to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

The state government and security agencies are calling on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements, as investigations into the incident intensify.
